From the recordings EMY'S TOP 10 LOVE SONGS and ANN MARIE
Lyrics
In a town of fifty thousand, in Orlando, so very long ago
A young man met a girl in elementary school, who made him fall in love
Sweet and kind, beautiful too, she meant so much to him
Smart and complete, nobody’s fool, and her name was Ann Marie
Everyone thought she was really smart and kind, including the little boy too
A blue-eyed blonde girl, so very cute, felt he couldn't compete
Didn’t go steady, but loved her from afar, but
Had her in his heart every day, when they'd walk home from school down railroad tracks
She'd say, "I like you fine, Bobby, just know someday we'll find our way
She made him feel great, gave him chills up and down his spine
When she invited him to come and visit her mom
Her mom was like Doris Day, a homemaker .....and so beautiful too
She was a "Leave It to Beaver" June Cleaver...oh man, her mom was cool
At the end of 6th grade, told him her dad had to go to California for...a new job far away
She’d have to go, never to return, but they could write letters, and so they did every single day
Didn’t know what it was all about back then, just a place far away, he put it out of his mind
And went on with life...yet, here is what he'd say, "She was the greatest love I ever had
back in those early Orlando days
Little did he know, that someday they’d meet, one day far away
In a foreign land, it was something inside that I really could not comprehend
She was a professor of art teaching school in Rome, he found it so profound
When his ship pulled into Naples, and he took a side trip to Rome, and
He felt like he'd won the lottery, for the day, when he encountered Ann Marie, once again
He was in the Navy, an officer by trade and in his time
He remembered her, and asked if she’d like to have a glass of wine
The little boy no longer afraid to get close to her
Just thought of her as a long lost friend, and wanted to be friends again
She said yes, and that was that, they became pen pals and over time
Then one day she flew back home to America to be his wife
His ship returned and they married and had a family of their own
You never know what can happen in life, just try to go with the ebb and flow
If there’s a will, there’s a way, to make life come true, and sometimes it doesn't always show
It's was destiny for Bobby and Ann Marie
And it can be yours to also come true
You have to give life time to play out its hand, and see what life does for you
From childhood dreams to a love divine
They found their way back in time, with laughter and joy intertwined
In the story of love, forever aligned them and brought them together again
Always let the stars unfold, and live life in happiness with your friend
