From the recording YOUR HEART IS MY ANCHOR
Lyrics
You married a man, who married the sea,
What did you think your life would be?
I’m in the Navy, married to the ocean, heading back out to sea,
Far away from you as I often am, and I am lonely too,
My job’s not easy being away,
And you think I don’t love you, but I do.
[Chorus]
So as I sail to the ocean's edge, where heartaches grow,
Longing for your touch every moment, where the warm winds blow,
But orders come down, and my heart breaks for me and you,
For the love of the Navy, I feel lost and all alone.
When I get back, we can start life over again,
In my arms, I’ll create a life you'll want with me,
But for now, I live out on the Ocean with dark and angry seas,
My ship sails to foreign lands so America can be free,
But riding the edge of the ocean is a dangerous thing,
When leaders are made up of dangerous men,
We must be careful to truly defend.
Well, I'm riding the waves of the deep blue seas,
And my only thought is of getting back to you.
Days turn to weeks, weeks into months too long,
I’m so far from you love, my heart lost it's song.
Our President keeps us sailing around the Arabian sea,
In total despair, our sailors feel lost and stranded up a tree.
No other nation cares about us in this unnecessary and wasteful war.
I find myself asking too often, "Why did I ever join?"
So as I sail to the ocean's edge, where heartaches grow,
Longing for your touch every moment, where the warm winds blow,
But orders come down, and my heart breaks for me and you,
For the love of the Navy, I feel lost and all alone.
When I get back home, we'll start over again,
And in my arms I’ll try to create a life for us to once again begin,
But for now, I live out on the Ocean, plowing the deep blue seas,
Somewhere at the edge I'll find a place for you and me!
I joined the Navy to defend our great land,
And defend our ships at sea,
I never thought I’d spend my entire life at sea,
Because of one man who keeps me away from you.
My pain is too great to bear sometimes, so Navy blue,
And the man in the Oval office doesn't care about me or you.
So here I am, just a sailor with dreams being back home with you,
Living out on the ocean, where the waves crash and roar, and we are at death's door.
And everyday she takes one or two more.
But I'm caught between the love of my life for you and the sea,
With the waves as my whisperers, I have memories of our love,
Through the storms and seas, it’s your voice I hear, that anchors me.
I hope I can plot a chart for home soon to be with you again.
When my duty is done and winds are kinder once again,
I’ll sail right back to your arms and leave the oceans behind,
So await my return, and together we’ll find love again,
For your heart is my anchor,
As I sail through the deep blue seas.
I am forever with you.
