From the recording Ode to America

written by Robert Knauer and Krista Banks Kimerer, this song is a protest of the way and manner in which Donald Trump and his Administration is treating and harming not only all citizens of the USA, but the world via his killings, mass murder, and genocide.

Lyrics

O beautiful for filtered skies,
Through algorithms trained,
Where truth gets bent in viral lies
As American outrage is sustained.

America, America
Who told you who to be?
You traded your soul for Social Media,
And sold your mind for free.

O beautiful, for pilgrims feet
You mock what they endured,
They crossed the seas for freedom , with hardships they endured,
While we scroll social media reassured.

America, America
God mend what we ignore,
We scream for rights with megaphones
as if we didn’t know their use before.

O beautiful, our heroes proved,
When ICE agents arrived,
Communities came out to the streets,
Met with hostility, while innocent people died

America, America
Let’s say the quiet part:
We crowned the one with money, and a get out of jail card free.

O beautiful for amber waves
Now owned by just a few rich,
The land of “we the people” has turned sour for “you and me.”

O beautiful for purple peaks
And amber waves of grain,
Still standing, still the same,
While we tear each other down
And call it freedom just the same.

America, America
You used to mean something to us all,
Now the truth’s is the battleground for right wing media
And every lie they sing.

O beautiful for dreams we had
We’ve shrunk them down now out of fear,
We argue over scraps of truth on channels no longer truthful to us all.
As real Journalism disappears, my tears begin to fall.

America, America
God shed some light on thee,
Because we’ve lost our course so badly
We don’t know what’s true in American history.

So crown thy good with brotherhood
It seems we’ve missed the mark.
Instead, we chose derision, and now live in the dark
In the chaos of a true shit show, each and every day

You gave away our grace for a more tyrannical way
We did not vote for a king or idolater.
So, don’t wrap me your false crown of King Donald Trump.
Don’t hand me what you normalized and say it's all for good.
Nor ask me to bow down now, or forevermore

America feels like something’s broken,
We can’t catch our breath,
Like every day’s a shouting match
With we are going to WAR, WAR, WAR.
Forced to kill innocent people, that did not do anything wrong.
We’re so tired of your noise and song of BS spin
No reason for soldiers, men, women and children to have to die,
For the failings of Donald Trump.

American flags are folded tightly for each casket brought home,
And placed into shaking tearful hands at gravesides,
America, America, are you still there for me?
I need to know your answer, I can't wait.
